First Nations Creative developed these wonderful stencils to allow children to be able to learn Australia's amazing Indigenous culture in a fun and simple way. Being able to depict their own stories using Indigenous storytelling, even before language and writing skills are fully developed, creates a unique way to engage young learners with art and their own connection to the world around them, across cultures.
This will be particularly important for all of Australia's Indigenous littlies to build their own connection to their families, communities and to country, but is also a wonderful way to build reconciliation across the broader community. Understanding one another is always the first step!
“Here in Australia we’re fortunate enough to have one of the richest and oldest continuing cultures in the world. This is something we should all be proud of and celebrate.” – Prof Tom Calma AO - Kungarakan Elder & 2023 Australian of the Year - Human Rights & Social Justice Advocate.
Designed and laser cut here in Melbourne, in 3mm thick Acrylic for long term use, and 14cm squared for easy use for young (or old) hands (why not use these in aged care too?) and variable art media.
These symbols have been chosen due to their wide spread use across most Indigenous communities throughout Australia, however, there will sometimes be slight variations in their meaning that are specific to a particular area or community. While all care is taken that these stencils are what they are labelled as, there will be slight variations across communities and borders.
Please engage with your local Indigenous community to confirm if these are all correct for your region and if not, please do let us know and custom adaptations can be made accordingly.
